(Look here for the latest invertebrate news)

Last week it was "pretty certain" that House Democrats would quickly move forward with contempt citations against two Bush administration figures who were stonewalling Congress. Then the economy started circling the drain more quickly.

The planned citations now appear to be on hold as Congress and the White House work on a bipartisan economic stimulus package, the central tenet of which involves cutting virtually everyone an $800 check.

Aaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhh.

Oh, and it'll take another six months to see whether the surge is really working. Thanks for your patience! Love, BushCo.

800 bucks aint gona do nuttin

Send each taxpayer the equivalent of

what is spent on the department of marriage - then I can 'stimulate' my own economy

And Villagemutt, it's a rebate. Say goodbye to any tax refund you thought you were getting next year, if, that is, you qualify for the $800. I'm going to be a traitor and save the $800. Sure, the dollar isn't worth much, but at some point I hope the pendulum swings back and the dollar starts to look good again. Yeah, I know.

I'm going to save my rebate and spend it on Jan 21, 2009!

DCap: Yeah, the numbers changed and I don't know that I will get much. But like Sorghum, I'm thinking that saving it for January 21, 2009 is the best idea. One way or another I'm drinking that night.

I think I'll give some of my rebate to Cindy Sheehan's campaign.

Wouldn't it be nicer if Cindy Sheehan was Speaker! She is much more qualified.

Remember when Bush was first selected to be Prez, he arranged to send us all a check for $600, just so we would think well of him. Of course, I never did. They wanted us to blow that $600 to stimulate the ecomomy. Like a lot of others, I didn't. Just paid off some debt, while some folks did that or stuck it in savings. Ain't gonna work this time either. Might spend $20 on a bottle of Jack Daniels for my own inaugural celebration Jan. 21 next year. I'm not spending it unless I get enough for a bigass HDTV flat panel TV to hang on the wall.

From what I understand, it is just moving money through time.

Of course, they won't get it done by April 15, so it won't move much.

People should realize they can do this themselves and reduce their withholding.

All the people that get so excited about a big tax refund don't realize that it's their money to begin with and they've just floated the US Govt an interest free loan.

Let's even say that the vast majority does go out and blow this check, spend it on things like an HDTV. Whose economy is that going to be good for? Where do you think all this stuff gets made? The Chinese Yuan will increase in value even more (well the government's share of it anyway), the US dollar will drop even more because of the huge amount of money being poured like buckets into foreign economies, and lastly Wal-Mart will be the big winner and make enough bank to put even more small businesses under.
